Major Nelson has just posted a YouTube video (shown after the break) detailing the new Xbox controller that will be released in the USA on November 9th and in the UK and rest of Europe around February.
The new D-pad is just a disc in the normal configuration, but rotating it raises the crossbars about a quarter-inch, making it far closer and easier to use for your left thumb. The analogue controller sticks have also been updated to be slightly more concave, and the four controller buttons are now translucent monochrome instead of coloured. No news for all the people who have already bought the new Xbox and received original controllers as to whether there will be an upgrade/discount program.
11.14pm – Update: Major Nelson has posted an update via Twitter – “FYI the grey ABXY buttons are just for this one new controller. It’s not the de facto standard from now on.”
