Richard Dudley, evangelist for the Window-dev-tool-building site ComponentOne posted today on Twitter that Windows Phone 7 would support USB data tethering to devices, and that carriers would not be allowed to charge an additional fee for this service.
This would be a first since every carrier both in the US and UK/Europe charges an additional fee for any ‘official’ tethering solution for a device. Some of the HTC Android phones have “Hot Spot” ability built in to enable WiFi tethering for free, but no devices allow USB tethering for free at the moment.
