A Dutch tech site called All About Phones is claiming, via ‘an informed source’, that an upcoming update to Google Maps will bring true offline navigation to Android Handsets.

A previous update back in December paved the way for this, bringing partial offline mode along a pre-planned route, and of course the change of the mapping method from size-heavy .jpg files to lighter and scalable vector maps.

They claim the update will be available this summer, and that the source is an ‘equipment supplier that manufactures Android smartphones’.
