New Zealand Rugby Union coach Graham Henry has issued a complete social media blackout to the players for the duration of the World Cup.
The World Cup which takes place in September and October of this year has previously had a common sense guideline approach given to the players, which has mostly been followed, but an event on their 2009 European tour caused some media attention when winger Cory Jane tweeted that he had been dropped from the side before the news was made public. However Henry adds the ban is a precautionary measure rather than directly based on any previous instances.
The ban is a now familiar occurrence with Welsh rugby players receiving a similar ban in February this year, and England football players having the same restriction from the FA during the World Cup last year.
