House Of Marley UK Launch Event

house of marley uk launch venueI was at The House of Marley UK Launch event last night, where they showed off the range of headphones, earphones and docks they are introducing here in the UK following their mid-August announcement that they would be coming to the UK.

The House of Marley brand is based on the principles of Quality, being Eco-friendly and being cause-minded. They have brought a range of products that possess high quality audio components and are made of durable materials that are meant to last, but at the same time are environmentally friendly using recyclable materials in both the products and the packaging. The last principle – being cause-friendly – is demonstrated by giving a portion of the sale from every product to 1Love, a charity that does good in honour of Bob Marley’s vision of hope and unity.

The evening was of course Jamaican themed, with a great feeling and vibe at the venue. There was the opportunity to try listening to various models of the earphones and headphones, the headphones excelled in the noisy environment blocking out all the background noise and producing great quality sound.

So, on to the products, The House of Marley is bringing a range of Earphones, Headphones and Docks to the UK. There are 3 main collections, Jammin’ (Vibrant, expressive and fashion-forward), Freedom (Soulful style and sophistication) and Destiny (High-end design and supreme sound quality).

house of marley headphonesI tried the Destiny, Stir it Up, and Soul Rebel headphones, all sounded great but the build in noise-cancelling capability in the Destiny definitely improved the sound.

All of the headphones and earphones use fabric cord which reduces the ability for the lead to get tangles up in a knot, and also makes the lead stronger giving greater durability.

The earphones were also good, I’m not a fan of the in-ear style, but the range of adapters available for the House of Marley is so great (6 different styles of rubber tips!) that anyone should be able to find a comfortable setup.

Both headphones and earphones are setup with traditional reggae base in mind, and excel with this type of music, but House of Marley say they haven’t neglected the higher range of notes with the statement “we aim for authenticity and you can hear it in every instrument and vocal”. From the limited earphone testing I was able to do they certainly didn’t sound too bassy, but I have a pair of Zion earphones to test more fully coming up soon.

The top of the range dock – One Foundation – looks amazing and is made from beautifully polished FSC-certified wood giving a look that would be at home in any high class audio setup.
