Motorola have announced their new handset the RAZR, taking on the mantle from their extremely popular clamshell phone that everyone had to have about 5 years ago. This new one however is nothing like the old one.
The ‘new’ RAZR is an Android 2.3.5 handset, with a 4.3″ Super AMOLED display with Corning®Gorilla® Glass and all over splash-guard coating. Inside there is a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, but the real feature of the phone is its incredible thinness, measuring just 7.1 millimeters if you ignore the camera (which will probably prevent ‘world’s thinnest smartphone’ claims!) which is an 8MP shooter with 1080p HD video recording.
Like the ATRIX the RAZR comes with accessories like the LapDock providing a laptop style dock giving a full keyboard and screen to work off, a Smart Controller which acts as a remote when the RAZR is connected to an HDTV, and the WebTop docking station.
Motorola have also included something called Smart Actions, which is a cross between the new iOS5 Reminders feature and the Locale Android App. Smart Actions allow you to quickly select power saving profiles and settings, but also allow location based reminders and events like switching to silent when you arrive at work, or sending pre-defined text message replies to specific missed calls. This could be a great feature and its nice to see it bundled into the OS by Motorola.
The RAZR will be available in the UK on November 1st.
