The Facebook UI change six weeks ago upset many people due to the change in the News Feed and the fact that Facebook now showed you ‘top stories’ instead of all stories in date order. So with some behind the scenes algorithm Facebook gave weighting to some stories by close friends/family meaning you saw them more even if there were more recent stories by people Facebook decided you were not as close to.
Today, Facebook has added the option to revert this back to Recent Stories First with a drop down selector at the top of the news feed. Mark Tonkelowitz on the Facebook blog added:
Now you have a new way of sorting your News Feed: most recent stories first. You can also continue to view highlighted stories first, followed by recent stories, like what you see today. If you don’t have the updates to News Feed yet, you can expect to see them over the coming weeks as the rollout continues.
