There have been several reports in the last few days of users finding the new iPad hot. And not in the good way – the ‘it literally heats up’ way.

Tweakers.net studied the new iPad (iPadv3) under a thermal imaging camera and found that after 5 minutes running benchmarking software, the new iPad was seen to be running around 5°C hotter than an iPad2 in the same scenario.

Apple has responded by providing the following statement to The Loop:

The new iPad delivers a stunning Retina display, A5X chip, support for 4G LTE plus 10 hours of battery life, all while operating well within our thermal specifications,” Apple representative Trudy Muller, told The Loop. “If customers have any concerns they should contact AppleCare.

You can see our initial impressions of the new iPad here, and we’ve not seen any sign of over-heating so far.
