OMGPOP, creators of the smash hit app Draw Something, have been bought out by US game company Zynga in a reported £210m deal. Draw Something is the current number one on Apple’s Free and Paid Apps Chart and has been downloaded 35 million times.

OMGPOP have worked hard to achieve such great success, with development of 35 other games before hitting it big with Draw Something. Its success mirrors that of Rovio, creators of Angry Birds, the most popular smartphone game ever, who also had a string of games that fell short of the mark.

Games giant Zynga already owns popular social media games such as Farmville and Words with Friends but has been criticised for paying so much for a potential one hit wonder. They are now planning to sell 40m shares, with CEO Mark Pincus selling 15% of his own. Draw Something’s crazy popularity is set to continue with new features such as chat and saving options due to be added soon.
