Google Street View Goes Amazonian

The Google Street View feature on Google maps now boasts 360 degree ground level images of the Amazon rainforest.

Many areas of the Amazon are protected by the Brazilian government who strictly limit public access and Google hope that their new feature will allow people to view this incredible environment that they would not otherwise be able to experience.

The Brazil and U.S. Street View and Google Earth Outreach teams joined up with the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS), a local non-profit conservation organisation. Using the Street View trike and a tripod camera fitted with a fisheye lens they captured and ‘stitched together’ over 50,000 photos to compose a panoramic 360 degree view.
