A possible engineering sample of the rumoured iPad mini has been shown on the site GottBeMobile.com.
Photos of the iPad Mini engineering sample come from a trusted source inside the Apple supply chain.
Would a new smaller iPad indicate one of the first strategy shifts in Apple as Tim Cook takes over the reigns? Whilst Steve Jobs famously declared a 7” display “too small” to be touch friendly, Apple could have decided there is too much competition for its main iPad in the 7” space, and Amazon and the soon to be released Google Nexus 7 are taking away their potential revenue.
A 7” iPad Mini offered at around £250/£300 would fit neatly in between the iPod Touch and the iPad2 in both cost and size.
The sample mock-up shown also has 2 speaker grills either side of the new smaller dock connector, possibly indicating the first stereo sounds in an iPad and a redesign from the rear corner of current iPads which can easily be accidentally covered when holding.
