Amazon at their press event yesterday updated their Kindle line-up with a new Kindle Fire (now finally available in the UK) and a Kindle Fire HD.

New Kindle Fire

amazon kindle fire available in the ukFirstly, the first Kindle Fire available here is an updated version of the original from the US. Its still the same 7” size and form factor, but features uprated internals including a new 40-percent faster 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, and a longer battery life than its predecessor.

The display is 1024x600px and it measures 189 mm x 120 mm x 11.5 mm. It’s WiFi only here, no free 3G access as yet and storage is a single 8GB option.

The Kindle Fire in the UK provides access to a library of “over 22 million movies, TV shows, songs, books, and magazines, plus tens of thousands of popular apps and games such as Angry Birds Space, Skyscanner, Jamie’s 20 Minute Meals and Auto Trader”

The deal also includes Free unlimited cloud storage for all your Amazon content and a one month free trial of Lovefilm Instant video streaming.

The Kindle Fire is available for £129.00 with free delivery.

Kindle Fire HD

amazon kindle fire hd available in the ukThe Kindle Fire HD also has a 7” display but runs at a much higher resolution of 1280 x 800. Inside there is a powerful 1.2 Ghz dual-core processor, and provides a claimed 11 hours of continuous use, although it doesn’t state under what conditions this was measured.

The Fire HD is the first tablet with dual antenna, dual-band Wi-Fi meaning it can run at both 2.5GHz and 5GHz ranges and also includes Dolby Audio
dual-driver stereo speakers. Storage options are either 16GB or 32Gb and the whole unit measures 193 mm x 137 mm x 10.3 mm.

The Kindle Fire HD is available for £159.00 for the 16Gb model or £199 for the 32GB one, and includes free delivery.
