Sphero, the the first robotic ball gaming system, that you control with your smartphone has been upgraded to a new and improved Version 2 game.

First released last November, Sphero is a Smart Robot shaped like a ball that allows you to play and interact via Apps on your iPhone or Android Smartphone. Sphero 2.0 (the sequel) is visually similar to the original but is “faster, brighter and smarter than ever before”.

Powered with new AI Superdrive capabilities Sphero 2 can travel at speeds of up to 7 feet per second (about 4.7Mph – a fast walk) thanks to a more efficient drivetrain and lowered centre of gravity. It also has improved multi-colour LED lights, ramps that pop out of the product packaging and all terrain covers for greater traction outside and to help protect your Sphero 2.0 from the elements.

The same Apps unveiled at CES2013 are available for Sphero 2 allowing you to virtually interact with zombies, fireballs, a cupcake guzzling beaver and more.

Ian Bernstein, cofounder of Orbotix said:

The first time I drove Sphero 2.0, I passed out. It’s true. Sphero 2.0 has been re-engineered from the ground up to give the user an entirely new gaming experience. It’s kind of like Einstein and C-3PO had a baby.

Sphero 2.0 is available to pre-order today on GoSphero.com, or via selected retailers like Amazon, and will be available from August 30th, 2013 for £99.99.
