Alarm clocks as we know them have been around since the 1940s, and they come in many shapes and sizes these days. They can wake you up by buzzing, but how many wake you up with the truth? Meet the ALARMclock by Fig, an alarm clock that doesn’t sugar coat things…
The ALARMclock looks like a stylish LED clock, but under its exterior lies the cold hard truth. Instead of waking you up with the sounds of song birds the ALARMclock wakes you up by giving you the lowdown on your life in three different areas. First up is your financial status as the ALARMclock can display any financial data you choose through an API or by securely connecting to your financial institution. If you feel like laying out of work, seeing your bank balance first thing in the morning may change your mind.
If you’re the social type and could care less about the almighty dollar, the ALARMclock still has something for you. The device will pool all your social media data together and give you an overview of just how popular you are. What if you are the sole survivor type that doesn’t care for money or friends? If you’re a lone wolf survivalist, you care about your life above all else, and the ALARMclock will tell you how many days you have left until the Grim Reaper knocks on your door. It’s not magic, but it will calculate your life expectancy based on your health, diet, lifestyle, age, etc…
The ALARMclock isn’t going to be for everyone, but being woken up with the “truth” about things is an interesting concept to say the least. The clock is easy on the eyes as well with the bright LED’s and hand-built enclosure courtesy of PHAW custom woodworks. It’s also easy to setup through a control panel site, and the developers plan to update the device to allow for more information like deforestation rates or box office receipts.
At the time of this writing, the ALARMclock Kickstarter campaign has around 30 hours to go, and they’ve blown past their initial funding goal of $7,000 to raise $25,957. All the early bird spots are sold out, and only 32 of 100 “Last Chance” editions remain at $130/£80.52 a pop and they’ll ship out in February of 2014. There’s no word on when Fig will produce more ALARMclock’s, but one would think we will see more due to the success of the initial campaign.
