Everyone loves to get a cool gift for Christmas, and tablets are always a popular way to go. We’ve seen a lot of tablets released this year, and with the holidays right around the corner we thought it was time to compile a list of the best 7-inch tablets to help tablet shoppers out during this busy holiday season.
iPad Mini 2
Taking the top spot is none other than the new iPad Mini 2 from Apple. The original mini was one of the top selling tablets last year, and you can expect the 2nd gen iPad Mini to follow suit. The 7.9-inch mini boasts a resolution of 2048×1536 with a retina display making it the sharpest screen on our Best 7-inch tablets list while the Apple A7 processor to keep things humming along. It’s the priciest tablet on the list starting at £319, but you know what you’re getting a top-tier device. The iPad Mini 2 is a great tablet for people that want to keep things simple.
Nexus 7
The Nexus 7 2014 edition is a beastly little tablet with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro and 2GB of RAM. It’ll run anything you can throw at it, and all your games and apps will look great on the 7.02-inch 1920×1200 display. It’s a good tablet for people new to the world of Android as it’s sans bloatware, but will still impress technophiles as its fast and not locked down like Apple’s mini. The Nexus 7 is affordable as well starting at only £199.
Kindle Fire HDX
Amazon has already done a few refreshes on the Kindle Fire, but this year they kicked things up by dropped three new tablets at once. The Kindle Fire HDX 7 is the mid-range Fire, but the specs are on right on par with the Nexus 7. You’ll get a sharp 7-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1920×1200 and a ppi of 323 to go along with 2GB of RAM and a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor. It has a lot of great features, and it won’t break the bank as the prices start at just £199. It’s a great tablet with its only drawback coming from the fact that you can’t access Google Play (without some trickery), so you’re stuck with Amazon’s App Store.
Galaxy Note 8
The Galaxy Note 8 is the biggest tablet on our list edging past the Mini 2 and coming in at 8-inches. Underneath the hood, you’ll find a quad-core A9 running at 1.6GHz which compliments the 2GB of RAM nicely. You won’t have any trouble running the latest apps or games, but the display is a little disappointing as it only comes in at 1280×800 with a ppi of 189. It comes with the S-Pen and prices start at £269.
ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7
Asus has cranked out a lot of tablets over the past few years, and 2013 was no different. The MeMO Pad HD 7 is the cheapest tablet to make our best 7-inch tablets list, and while the specs won’t blow your hair back, the price is nice. The MeMO Pad HD is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz processor with 1GB of RAM, and the display comes in at 1280×800. It has dual-shooters and most of the other bells & whistles you’d want in a tablet, but certainly isn’t the sharpest or fastest tablet on the list. The price makes the MeMO worth a look though as it’ll only set you back around £99.
