It seems everyone is getting in on the tablet game these days, and you can now add another company to that list. DreamWorks is getting into the tablet business to produce a kids tablet with a little help from the folks at Fuhu. Want to guess what’s going to be a hot seller next Christmas?
According to the New York Times, the new DreamTab will be of the 8-inch variety and will get original content based on DreamWorks catalog of characters. They plan on treating it like a cable channel by continuously providing new content geared for kids throughout the year. As you’d expect, there will be a slew of DreamWorks accessories to go along with the DreamTab.
We have no idea of what will lie under the hood of the DreamTab, but we do know there will be loads of custom animations and that it will communicate wirelessly with DreamWorks branded toys. If you know anything about Skylanders or Disney Infinity, you know this could be huge if handled properly. The tablet won’t be locked down either as your children will be able to stream content from studios like Disney and Nick as well.
Fuhu is no stranger to making kid friendly tablets, and a collaboration between them and DreamWorks is a move that’s bound to pay off. The DreamTab will offer up a wide range of activities and content, and it’s going to be high tech enough to handle anything a normal tablet would when you switch it over to Parent Mode. The firm price or release date has been given, but you can expect the DreamTab to be released this spring for under $300 bucks.
