The Motorola Moto X is the premium Android offering from Motorola and has been going down a storm in the US with some unique features that set it apart from the crowd, and its near pure Android experience thanks to its acquisition by Google.

It has some standout features like its curved back to make it fit better in your hand, and always listening Just Talk which even the Nexus 5 doesn’t have. The Moto X, the big brother to the Moto G, the more ‘budget friendly’ model will be available on UK networks from 1st February 2013.The key specs of the Moto X are:

  • 4.7″ AMOLED display (RGB) / HD 720p
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro (1.7GHz Dual-Core Krait CPU, quad-core Adreno 320 GPU)
  • 10MP CLEAR PIXEL (RGBC) rear camera
  • 2200 mAh. Mixed usage up to 24 hours
  • Bluetooth 4.0 LE and 802.11a/g/b/n/ac WiFi
  • Width 65.3mm; Height 129.4mm
  • Weight: 130g
  • Water repellent nano coating

Its not entirely without Motorola’s input though – some key features added by them are:

Motorola Assist: Moto X recognizes when you shouldn’t be bothered, like when you’re sleeping or driving. You can set actions and exceptions so that they work exactly how you want them to.

Motorola Connect: Read and reply to texts, and see who’s calling your Moto X directly from your computer’s Chrome browser. All without ever having to reach for your phone.

Motorola Connect: Don’t have your Moto X with you? The Motorola Connect extension for Google Chrome lets you see and respond to notifications like text messages, missed calls etc. all from your desktop.

There are some obvious signs of Google’s heritage too though – for example Moto X owners get an extra 50GB of Google Drive storage on top of the standard 15GB free for two years giving you plenty of space to store your files on the go.

The Moto X will be available in black from 1st February from Phones 4u, Carphone Warehouse, O2, Amazon and Techdata.  Moto X will also be available in white exclusively to Phones 4u customers for the first three months.  Prices vary but start from £25 per month on contract or £380 SIM free.
