Back to the Future II was released way back in 1995, and while we won’t delve into the plot, old Marty ends up in 2015 which is right around the corner. Fans of the film will remember the DeLorean, and the Hover Board, but what about those fancy shoes high-tech Nike’s with the self-tying laces?

Turns out those may be right around the corner…

Tinker Hatfield is a name Nike aficionados will no doubt recognize, and last week he dropped a bomb on sneakerheads around the globe. According to Sole Collector, here’s what went down…

During an appearance at the Jordan Brand’s Flight Lab space in New Orleans earlier today, designer Tinker Hatfield was asked about the possibility of seeing power lacing next year, and his answer may surprise you.

Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!” said Hatfield.

Can’t make it any clearer than that. What remains to be seen is whether the power laces will make an appearance in a new set of kicks or the Nike MAG’s. Not familiar with the shoe? The Nike MAG is the fictional shoe from Back to the Future II, and Nike decided to make it a reality in 2011.

Only 1,500 pairs were produced, and all the proceeds from the eBay sale went to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Needless to say, they went quick and you’ll have to shell out between $400-1,000 bucks or more if you want to snag a pair today. Those were sans power laces…nike.mag

It’s interesting to look back and see what the minds behind Back to the Future II thought 2015 would hold, and while they missed the mark on flying cars and hover boards, it looks like we’ll get to check out power laces sometime next year.
