Senior Director of Content Communications, Sid Shuman, has announced a final PlayStation 5 showcase ahead of it’s “holiday” release date.
In the blog post that Shuman posted on the 12th of September, he wrote “we wanted to give you one more look at some of the great games coming to PS5 at launch (and beyond!)”, and went on to say “Our next digital showcase will weigh in at around 40 minutes, and feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners. “.
PlayStation gaming fans are particularly excited for the Showcase which is set to air on YouTube and Twitch “Tune in live on Twitch or YouTube this Wednesday, September 16 at 1 pm PDT / 9 pm BST / 10 pm CEST to see what’s next for PS5.” Sony has been extremely quiet around release dates and initial launch prices while their long time competitor Microsoft has been very upfront and aggressive with their dates and prices. The Xbox Series X launches on November 10th, 2020 with a somewhat high price of £499 which makes it Microsofts most expensive launch price after the Xbox One being a comparatively low price of $399.
Playstation 5 Pricing
Many believe Sony keeping their cards close to their chest is a tactical play to get the advantage over Microsoft by waiting for them to announce the launch price first before they go in at a lower price because let us not forget that Sony has a history of this stemming back to May 11th, 1994 where Sony destroyed the Sega Saturn, their biggest launch competitor with one phrase “$299”.
It is unlikely that Sony will repeat the same theatrics but it would be entertaining none-the-less.
The last PlayStation 5 “State of Play” was pegged to only be showcasing launch titles for the console but Sony gave fans a shock when they inserted a short trailer at the end of the showcase showing off the PlayStation 5’s sleek looks, and following this fashion, Sony will undoubtedly uncover the release date and launch price of the console before the showcase comes to a close. Although nothing official has been mentioned on the release date yet, a small collection of PlayStation 5 compatible hardware can be found for sale on amazon.co.jp listing a release date of 20th November 2020, but only time will tell.
