Wednesday, September 7, 2022, new launches of the iPhone14, iPhone 14 Pro and Apple Watch Series 8 & Ultra took place.
Let’s check the new Apple iPhone14 and other new devices out.
iPhone 14 Lineup
One of the most remarkable changes to the base line of the new Apple iPhone14 is the elimination of the 5.4-inch iPhone mini due to lacklustre sales. This means the iPhone 13 Mini will be the last iPhone available right now at the 5.4-inch size with four new larger iPhones now launched.
In essence, this includes the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus, the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Besides the missing 5.4inch version, the standard iPhone 14 models all look identical to iPhone 13 models, with the design changes like the new notch being set aside for the expensive Pro models.
The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus models also do not have an updated A Series CPU and continue to use the same A15 CPU as in iPhone 13 models. So, in a nutshell, iPhone 14 models are more like an iPhone 13S refresh with some additional features included rather than a huge leap.
The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus range are available in five beautiful finishes: midnight, blue, starlight, purple, and (PRODUCT)RED1.
The iPhone 14 will start from £779 and the iPhone 14 Plus will start from £879 – prices increasing with storage.
iPhone 14 Pro
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models are where you’ll find all the fancy new features. This includes a huge megapixel bump for the cameras – going from 12 to 48! One of the most noticeable changes is the smaller notch on the top which Apple now calls the “Dynamic Island”.

The Pro models also include a faster CPU i.e. the A16 Bionic and a ProMotion display. Apple also finally takes advantage of the OLED display technology by introducing an Always On Display feature.
All iPhone 14 models have 6GB RAM, up from the 4GB, and an upgraded Snapdragon X65 10 Gigabit 5G modem from Qualcomm. In addition, X65 supports some satellite connectivity features, so Apple has satellite-based emergency features that will enable users to send texts in situations when there’s no coverage. Neat!
Wifi 6E support and a new purple colour join the existing series.
The iPhone 14 Pro will start from £1,099 and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will start from £1,199 – prices increasing with storage.

Apple Watch Series
Apple Watch Series 8
The Apple Watch Series 8 is similar to Apple Watch Series 7 with no significant design changes. With the S8 chip offering the same performance as S7, the watch comes in sizes 41mm and 45mm.
Apple Watch Series 8 includes a temperature sensing feature to be initially used for fertility planning.
Car crash detection with features identical to fall detection is also seen. The accelerometer would detect any increase in gravitational force and alert emergency services. Apple is working on an updated low-power mode, allowing more features to perform, with a longer preserved battery life.
The Apple Watch 8 starts at £419 for 40mm model and $449 for the 44mm model (GPS), the GPS model and £TBC for the GPS + data model.
Apple Watch Ultra
Apart from the Apple Watch Series 8 models, Apple has introduced a rugged activity version, Apple Watch Ultra.
Apple Watch Ultra showcases an updated durable design, larger than the current 45mm Apple Watch Series 7, with a display that measures 2 inches diagonally, up from the 1.9-inch diagonal screen of the 45mm Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch Ultra is sturdier and more apt for sports and such activities. It has a titanium alloy embedded, resulting in a shatter-resistant display.
In addition, it will have a stronger battery with longer life to support extended workout periods. Besides the new size and larger battery, it includes all features of Series 8. The price is £849 and all models include mobile data as standard.
Apple Watch SE
A new version of the Apple Watch SE is launched along with the Apple Watch Series 8. It includes a faster processor and an always-on display, initially introduced in Series 6.
The Apple Watch SE starts at £259 for the GPS model and £299 for the GPS + data model.
