Jackery 1500 Pro Review [March 2023]

Jackery, the world’s leading supplier of portable, environmentally friendly power solutions, has expanded its high-end Pro product family with the new Solar Generator 1500 Pro. It consists of the Power station Explorer 1500 Pro with 1512wh and the foldable solar panel SolarSaga 200W. Check out my Jackery 1500 Pro Review.

Jackery 1500 Pro Review – Portable Power

The Jackery Solar Generator 1500 Pro is part of the newly developed product range of solar generators that CES Innovation Award winner Jackery presented in January at the Consumer Electronics Show 2023 in Las Vegas.

The generator reliably supplies electricity at temperatures as low as -20°C and as high as 40°C. The new cooling system based on high-precision chips and independent sensors for real-time monitoring of various parts ensures improved heat dissipation of 30 per cent compared to previous models. Combined with the patented air duct concept, the temperature remains constant during operation.

The 1500 Pro is lightweight (weighing 17kg) and compact (38.4 x 26.9 x 30.75 cm) making it versatile and a good choice for people on the go.

Charging TO devices happens on the front, along with a status display. Connections include two USB-A 3.0 outputs with up to 18 W, two USB-C ports with Power Delivery with up to 100 W and a 12-volt socket. Next to it are two Schuko sockets for 230-volt devices. The 1500 Pro is always as quiet as a whisper when in operation at 30 to 46 decibels and, thanks to the integrated torch, gives off light at the push of a button.

Charging the Jackery itself happens on the rear, with an AC and DC input is installed taking a 240v ‘kettle’ style connector, and 2 connectors for the solar arrays.

Additionally, the Explorer 1500 Pro has an intelligent battery management system (BMS). The 12 protective functions included in it effectively cover unexpected scenarios such as overcurrent, short circuit, deep discharge, overload, overvoltage, and overheating. This means additional security for users who prefer to spend their time with family and friends instead of constantly monitoring the device’s status.

Charging

The Jackery 1500 Pro can connect up to 2 x SolarSaga 200W panels at a time, providing up to 400W peak. We’re not exactly in peak summer here in the UK in February, so far the max I’ve had from a single panel is around 180W.

Each SolarSaga Panel is weatherproof (IP 67) and includes 3 extending legs/stands on the rear which allow it to prop up at angles optimum for solar capture. The solar generator has an integrated MPPT solar controller (Maximum Power Point Tracking), which also significantly increases the solar yield.

Outdoors and Camping

First and foremost, a portable solar battery allows you to access power wherever you go, without the need for a traditional power source. This can be especially useful if you are camping in a remote location or in an area where there are no power outlets available.

“Off grid” is the natural habitat for the Jackery 1500 Pro. Taking it camping, and being able to run a whole host appliances from it is unbelievable handy. It can run a coffee maker in the morning, provide lights and phone charging in the evening – and be charging from solar during the day while you’re out doing activities.

Another benefit of a portable solar battery is that it is environmentally friendly. By harnessing the power of the sun, you are reducing your carbon footprint and contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable environment. This is particularly important for those who enjoy camping and exploring nature, as it helps to preserve the natural beauty of the landscape.

Charging Times

The charging times will vary depending on how many solar arrays (SolarSaga panels) you have connected, but ranges from around 9 hours to 2 hours.

The SolarSaga solar panels fold up into 1/4 of their extended size, and come in a very sturdy storage ‘bag’ with rigid sides for protection, and a carry handle.

Jackery 1500 Pro Review – Conclusion

A portable solar battery can save you money in the long run. While the initial investment may be higher than traditional batteries, the long terms savings of free electricity generated by passive solar panels will be cheaper than charging batteries from the grid in the long run.

I’ve only had limited opportunity for this Jackery 1500 Pro review so far, as the current weather doesn’t lend itself to camping yet, but rest assured I’ll be doing another review as temperatures warm up taking appliances off grid and seeing how the generator fairs in its natural habitat!

Cost and Availability

The Jackery Solar Generator 1500 Pro is on sale from February 16, 2023, for £1,499.00 for the Explorer 1500 Pro and 1500 Pro + Solar generator is £2,099.00.
